Even When We Don't See Him

Tuesday, June 5, 2012

I've been scouring through the book of Esther over the past few weeks and I'm enthralled, wrapped up, sucked in.

Did you know that the book of Esther is the only book in the Bible where there is no mention of God at all? None. Never a word about Him.

But, the story is intriguing. It's like a modern day movie with complex characters, love, and betrayal. I'm addicted to it. I can't wait to see what happens next. Of course, I'm studying with Mrs. Beth Moore, and we're taking each chapter a week at a time. Slowly but surely we're walking through how God has as much to say (if not more) when He says nothing as He does when He says everything.

His presence over the pages of Esther is unmistakable and undeniable. And what I love about God is that when we look back at our lives, He is there, even when we weren't seeking Him, even when we didn't care about Him, even when we didn't know He even existed. His hand can be seen spread across the pages of our lives even when we didn't ask Him to be a part of it. It's because He loves us even when we don't love Him. He pursues us even when we aren't pursuing Him.

2 Timothy 2:13 assures us that "even if we are faithless, He will remain faithful, because He cannot disown himself."

Isn't that a beautiful truth? He wants us always. No matter what we've done, who we've become or how badly we think we've screwed up, He will remain faithful because we are His children.

So take heart today. Know that even when you don't see Him on the pages of your life, He is very much there preparing good things for you to do.
